As I fast approach our first Energy Alchemy Mastery year long training and an upcoming Reiki Master retreat, I’ve been contemplating a lot about what it means to attain Mastery.

It is certainly not perfection in any way, shape or form. That idea can really be a stumbling block along the way. It is more a trajectory toward a higher level of being, in myriad ways of expressing it.

Why Do We Feel Called to Self Mastery?

Why do we feel called to mastery in some areas or perhaps many areas? It is because there is a great longing to continually improve ourselves.

We long to have more harmonious  supportive relationships, to find more fulfilling aligned and prosperous careers, to feel more skillful in any number of ways.

Ultimately, to be happy, healthy, wealthy and wise humans.

The Call to Master our Interconnectedness

In the context of the age we find ourselves in, I also believe all of humanity is poised at a tipping point, where we must move up to a new level of mastering our interconnectedness, to balance out the extreme challenges we face politically, economically, socially and environmentally if we want to avoid more dire examples of increasing chaos and catastrophe.

Moving Beyond Sustainability

We are all being called to move beyond sustainability, to truly regenerative practices and personal accountability, understanding that all of our actions, feelings and thoughts have a ripple effect for the whole.  As we clean up our own inner terrain we can positively impact everything: our environment and all the people around us and bring them back to balance and harmony.

Self Mastering Our Lives

In a sense it doesn’t matter what we set out to master

  • whether it’s a subject that is dear to us or the opposite something that is really kicking our butts and challenging us to learn something difficult for us.
  • Or a relationship that triggers us and calls us forth to be more patient, more compassionate, more flexible or possibly more powerful in speaking up and setting healthy boundaries.
  • Or creating more abundance flow for yourself and your family.
  • Or feeling more purposeful, more aligned and happier with your career.

In whatever way you find yourself wanting more mastery, more ease, freedom and accomplishment in your life, know that this drive to excel is within us all. It may have gotten covered over when you were young, or completely shut down by teachers or elders or parents who didn’t see our value or unique gifts

Whether it’s to do a mundane task with great attention and precision, or to make every action into seva, or self-less service. To uncover artistic skills or nurture spiritual gifts and connectedness.

The Creative Spark Within Us

It’s there in each of us:  a creative spark; a “Creator’s spark” if you will, to fulfill something unique that only we can accomplish, and/or to experience becoming more deeply self aware, self-loving and luminous.

In a sense mastery is our path of becoming whole humans,  where our divine and human natures are expressing in new and wonderful, albeit challenging at times, ways.  In whatever way mastery speaks to you make this the year where you go for it.

Mastering my Self

For me the past 30 years has been about mastering my Self with a capital S. Initially I thought it was about becoming a better energy healer, so I studied Reiki, and dove deep into spiritual and devotional practices of meditation, chanting, pranayama or breathwork, yoga,  mantra repetition, and they all led me Home to my inner being, investigating my interconnectedness to Creator Source and ultimately, to all of creation.

Tapping Into My Gifts and Talents

The pursuit of self mastery has helped me unveil amazing gifts and talents I never even knew existed, much less that I could experience. I remember many years ago in early 90s when I became a Reiki Master the word “master” really tripped me up. The part of me that didn’t feel skilled or worthy or ready to take on the role of energy healer felt so far away from mastery it almost seemed like a joke.

Who Am I to Think I Am a Master?

“Who am I to be any kind of master?” I would often question.

A few years ago while in India we went to a lovely Ayurvedic doctor, who told a similar story. He graduated top of his class, and thought he was ready to open a clinic. Then he met a true Ayurvedic Master, an old yogi living all alone in the jungle.  He was known to demonstrate unparalleled healing abilities, including the ability to call back a snake who bit someone, and have the snake extract the venom!!! This was a very rare gift, and the doctor suddenly realized he had a lot of knowledge, but no true wisdom.  He wanted to quit if the guru would not accept him as a student, as he now thought that he had nothing to offer anyone.

This was how I felt, as I had lived with spiritual masters, and witnessed miracles happening all around them for years.  At least I saw what was possible, but at the same time I felt so far from the goal of enlightenment, where powerful siddhis (spiritual gifts) such as healing and telepathy occur naturally.

I Am Reiki

Fast forward 30 years later and I find myself more like how Wayne Dyer described himself later in his career after becoming a world renowned self improvement author.  Dyer wrote:

” I no longer think of myself as a writer.  I AM WRITING  itself.”

In the same way I know I now can more easily claim “I am Reiki. I am healing itself.”

The State of Healing

Not the one who does these things but the state of healing itself.  I believe this is stepping into your mastery. It is not about reaching a goal, of knowing everything or understanding every technique but it is a state of accepting “I know that when someone needs healing I am that conduit;  I am that available channel for what is needed.  I will know in the moment what to do even though in this moment I have no clue.”

This just happened during my Reiki classes last weekend, where a new and highly unusual situation came up and it was very challenging both for the person experiencing it and the other students.  Even though I hadn’t seen anything exactly like it before, I had that deep awareness that I will know exactly how to manage this intense energy needing to be released. And so it was.

Knowing Who You Are and How Connected You Are

That is the state of mastery…this deep abiding knowing of Who You Are (a conduit for healing, a skilled author, etc.  ) and how connected you are — to Truth, to Light. to Love and wisdom, and the power of all that reality, all that inspired consciousness flowing through you at the needed moment.

This is my wish for all of you, and precisely why I created my newest Energy Alchemy Mastery,  apprenticeship year long program, which I would have loved to have access to earlier in my journey. With a bag full of energy alchemy techniques, group practice, and personal intuitive healing guidance I know many of the participants will begin to see/feel/know the same way I do of late:

“I AM HEALING ITSELF.  I AM LOVE and LIGHT. I AM ALL THAT IS. I AM”

Not Perfect But Connected

Not perfect…but connected to that which is…unchanging, infinite, fully awake and conscious. Whole and complete.  Right here, right now, within us.

Finally, as perfection would have it, i opened to this quote on FB from 2015:  (Author unknown)

Dear human:  You’ve got it all wrong. You didn’t come here to master unconditional love. That is where you came from and where you return. You came here to learn personal love. Universal love. Messy love. Sweaty love. Crazy love. Broken love. Whole love.  Infused with divinity. Lived through the grace of stumbling. Demonstrated through the beauty of… messing up. Often. You didn’t come here to be perfect. You already are. You came here to be gorgeously human. Flawed and fabulous. And then to rise again Into remembering.

NAMASTE
