Many years ago I was in a meditation ashram relishing my favorite spiritual practice: chanting devotional Sanskrit hymns. The mantras, syllables and even the ragas, or melodies, were designed to purify the body, mind and spirit. My first spiritual teacher then asked everyone what they experienced and the answers were: “light, bliss, peace”, etc. Finally one brave soul raised her hand and said “I feel terribly agitated.” The guru was delighted and said “YES—that is VERY GOOD!”

Far from relishing in someone’s suffering, the teacher went on to explain that the very pure vibrations of the chant will work deeply on breaking up any denser energies, any less-than-happy thoughts and feelings and begin to clean out the closets, so to speak. A very good thing indeed, but it can be a very unpleasant, and misunderstood, process.

The same is true with energy healing. Most people will experience very pleasant sensations like warmth, tingling, peace, lightness, calm, happy, energy, hope and pain relief. Some will not notice anything, but may later find they feel very rested and refreshed. My mom was like this. She rarely felt anything in the moment of receiving Reiki but went into a deep sleep and always awoke feeling better.

Yet a handful of people may have what is called a “Healing Crisis”, experiencing very strong unpleasant feelings and sensations, like dizziness, nausea, extreme fatigue, intense pressure, strong emotions, headaches, even pain. It is not common but when it happens I feel just like my teacher: “Very good!!” Because I know that the energy is working on a causal level to bring up to the surface an old pattern, repressed emotion, old injury or illness process, and assist in releasing it. I also know that the person is going to feel VERY changed when something this intense happens.

For example, in my recent Global Distant Healing, one woman, new to energy healing, wrote that she felt sick with a very strong headache and that she had to be still or it worsened. She felt actually “knocked out” by the energy and in “some other place.” It was disturbing her, until the next day when she awoke:

“This is like a totally new place for me. I feel new, I feel changed. When old fear thoughts come in, it is so much easier to let them go. I feel aligned and more expansive. I really am amazed.”

I have never experienced someone remaining in this type of intense agitated place for very long. As a matter of fact, the more intense it is, the greater the shift afterwards. So it may seem strange, but I get very excited when a client experiences a Healing Crisis.

What is Healing Crisis (aka Herxheimer Reaction)
In the holistic health worldview, a healing crisis is seen as not only natural but necessary. In the article “Understanding Healing Crisis” Ginger Chalford, Ph.D writes: “The body has an inherent desire for perfect health… the body must go through an elimination process to achieve good health. The elimination process is often referred to as the “healing crisis…also known as the Herxheimer Reaction which occurs when the body is detoxifying too rapidly and toxins are being released faster than the body can eliminate them. A healing crisis can result from any holistic/natural therapy such as homeopathy, naturopathy, improved diet, etc.” I would of course insert here the Usui System of Natural Healing or Reiki.

“In a healing crisis”, Dr. Chalford continues, “every body system works together to eliminate waste products and set the stage for regeneration. Old tissues are replaced with new. A disease occurs when the body cannot make it through its natural healing crises for one reason or another. The body is “locked” into a destructive and shut down place, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.”

While the symptoms of the healing crisis may at first be similar to the problem or disease it is meant to heal, there is an important distinction: elimination or release. A cleansing, purifying process is underway and stored wastes are in a free-flowing state. The body, mind, and spirit are no longer “locked.” Sometimes pain and symptoms are re-experienced during the healing crisis but it is temporary and on the way to being released or “healed”.

Reiki energy healing always works on the causal level to shift imbalance and dis-harmony and may bring to the surface past physical injuries, conditions and personal issues so that one can heal their unfinished business. And Yes, as my guru would say, “that is VERY GOOD.”

As I communicate often with the spirit of those who have left their bodies, I long to share with those who are grieving and feel left behind the awesome feelings, sensations and awareness I experience from those who take flight from the body. It is not what many people may anticipate; guilt, regret, blame, what-ifs. It is quite the opposite generally, as I connect to the Soul level consciousness, which is filled with tremendous expansion, deep understanding, great awareness and light-heartedness, even bliss.

Actually this topic was specifically requested by my Mom, who transitioned a few short months ago. My mother’s Spirit was very communicative and present for me immediately after she left her body. This was quite unusual, as she had been very sick and on lots of medication at the time.

Lag Time for Clarity
Normally in this circumstance I need to wait for a week or more before there is clarity and the ability to communicate from the new bigger perspective. It is rare that a person or animal can pop out of one dimension (physical) and be instantly clear and present on the spiritual plane.

This happened once before with a man who was surfing, and died from a heart attack on the board as he paddled to shore. He was very spiritually focused for many years, and he was able to describe getting up from the surfboard, and walking through a kind of clear jelly-like membrane and voila! He was fully conscious on the other side. He too was quite ecstatic and able to clearly converse about it shortly after his physical death.

Generally it seems to take some time for souls to gather up the energies and regroup in a very different dimension. Only when a being (animal or human ) is quite advanced and aware spiritually do I feel that they are able to orient immediately and share their expanded awareness and spiritual experience. I usually ask clients to wait a few weeks to have a session for this reason.

Cosmic Cruise
Not my MOM—she was raring to go, chatting me up night and day about the Bliss of not being bound to an aging ailing body. She was ECSTATIC and wanted to tell me all about it. I felt like she was experiencing a Cosmic Cruise, able to travel anywhere in the universe instantly with just a thought. She was having a ball!

The first conversation I had with her the day after she passed I asked her to describe what she was experiencing. She related immediately; “you know how I so enjoyed the gorgeous tropical sunsets every evening here in FL?” Losing her eyesight made her extremely grateful for the beauty she was still able to observe each day. “Well, all I have to do now, is THINK of the sunset, and I AM THE SUNSET!!” she crooned excitedly, like a child at their first amusement park. I could feel tingles of joy.

Mom wasn’t close to finished bubbling. “And you, I just think of you, and I can MERGE right into you!” Indeed, I could feel her energy merging with mine as we spoke. By the way, this part is not common or necessary for communicating with Spirit, but does sometimes happen –only with my permission now.

She was delighted with her new abilities and perspectives that opened up to her. She was, as many of us who are left behind try to find solace in, Blissful and FREE.

Animals Spirits are Blissful too
I have experienced this overwhelming joy with so many souls, but one of the first ones really stands out. Pooh Bear, who I dubbed the Buddha Kitty, left his body at the vet’s office and within moments my client called me, quite distraught of course. She wanted to connect with her best friend.

At first I had trouble “finding” him. It took longer than usual and when I mentioned my difficulty connecting, I finally felt him, laughing at me. Pooh Bear said distinctly “ You can’t find me because you are not looking Big enough!” In fact, I had attempted to connect with his rather small kitty body as I had done many times before to send him healing energy. But this time I had to widen my scope, and eventually I cast my energy radar to the width of the whole room, and then I felt him. His energy was HUGE!

The next thing that happened has been life-altering for me. I couldn’t find words to describe the waves and waves of joy, freedom, and ecstacy flowing from him and through me. I knew my client was too sad at the moment to take all this in, yet I so wanted to share my experience.

With this intention, I quickly grabbed a quartz crystal nearby and asked Pooh’s spirit to fill this crystal with his awesome radiant essence, so she could perhaps feel some of what I was tapping into. Quarts crystals are extremely dense and are known for their ability to register and amplify frequencies. I shipped the energized crystal to her, with the instructions to open it when she was ready. I had no idea then what she might feel.

Several weeks later I heard from Pooh Bear’s mom that she opened the golden cloth pouch and removed the crystal, held it and burst out crying. She could instantly feel Pooh Bear’s unique Presence. Since this time I have offered to energize crystals with the essence of the departed souls, and share their unique messages, with the intention that others can access the enormous ecstatic energy and awareness that is available when Spirit takes flight from form.

One of my students commented I don’t talk much about reiki any more; and this took me by surprise. I recall people groaning as I incessantly spoke of the wonderful new world of Reiki for years! Perhaps now after 19 years, I tend not to talk about it because it has become such a deep part of me, an integrated natural reality like breathing. Reiki flows thru every waking moment effortlessly now.

Or perhaps I have become a bit, well, ungrateful or better yet, assumptive. I expect Reiki miracles, yet the wonder never ceases. And I assume people know what it can do, after so many years practicing. Yet this is apparently my wrong assumption.

I was speaking to a long-time student the other night and remarked how grateful I was for all the healing tools I have been given, and wondered aloud how anyone gets by without them. I recently spoke to a woman who was depressed and put on one drug after another, with serious and debilitating side effects. In our first Reiki session we went over some energy techniques, and spoke of combining energy healing with therapeutic grade essential oils that have proven so effective for helping people come out of deep emotional “stuckness.” I asked her how she felt at the close of our first session and she said: “I have HOPE for the first time in months.”

Then it dawned on me how so many people probably still don’t even know what is available, or perhaps more importantly, what is possible. I am talking about the realities of incredible shifts I have seen for over two decades now. Every day I bear witness to true healing on every level…pain and illness shifting out of the body, heavy emotions dissipating, and mental acuity returning from dense brain fog. I not only know it is possible– I expect it. What some might call miracles, I know as our natural state, when working in this quantum energy field of reiki.

Reiki is the foundation of all my intuitive work…it is the connection that allows me to literally feel what is happening in another’s body from any distance. I can tell where energy is stuck and where it is flowing. I can feel when a chakra opens and when it is tightly shut. Reiki flows from my eyes when I look at someone, and from my heart when I listen. I now can easily guide someone through most difficulties by using what reiki has taught me. The subject doesn’t really matter…as everything is energy, everything can shift when a higher frequency is applied, and when denser energies (like sadness or anger) are gently and consciously released.

So I decided to begin to share more about the “miracles” that have been happening and I will begin with my personal healings and magical happenings.

How much Healing is Possible?

When you begin to comprehend our true nature, and understand that the physical body is 99.999% empty space, and the empty space is filled with light wave energy–it is like we are Christopher Columbus discovering that the world is not flat. All kinds of new horizons appear.
When you apply a biofield therapy such as Reiki, an extremely high vibration of universal life force, all kinds of things that appeared quite solid, like pain, disease, xrays of damaged body parts, etc. can begin “shapeshifting”. And the magic is not confined to the body healing; many mystical happenings surround you when you begin to connect with this universal life force energy.

Suspicious mole on face vanishes

Over 10 years ago I discovered a suspicious new mole under my eye that appeared overnight and had all the traits of skin cancer..irregular shaped, strange color, growing very quickly. I applied Reiki once or twice for a few minutes each and it was gone within a week, and has never returned.

Torn Rotator Cuff Heals without Surgery

I had a torn rotator cuff right before the 4 infamous hurricanes hit Florida. We had to board up several houses and I kept dropping plywood and water bottles. Several chiropractors suggested surgery; one x-rayed it and commented it was the worst torn shoulder he had ever seen in 25 years, with four different “itis’s”. I was in agony and had no insurance. I decided to dive deeper into reiki, and massage and got many healers involved to support me. This one took a great deal of effort and changes in many areas of my life, yet I have total mobility and 99% full range of motion. Oh, and no pain.

Candle in Reiki Room Lights Magically

Many years ago I was preparing the room for a client. I was working in a psychiatrist’s office. It was my practice to always light a candle in front of my spiritual teachers’ picture to invoke blessings and to set and clear the space. However, I tried to light a tea light that had no wax or even wick left, and I burned my thumbnail in desperation as I had no other candles with me. I even showed the receptionist the empty tin and asked her for a new candle, but no one had any. So I was very bereft that I had to start the Reiki session without a candle for the first time. After a few minutes, I looked up to the shelf and the tea light tin (there was no wick or wax) burst into a full flame over one inch high!! I mentioned it to my brand new client, and I guess these miracles happened to her every day, but they were new to me then, and she said “ oh yes ” and laid back on the table while I nearly peed myself. When the reiki session was nearly finished I got the hint to look up again just in time to watch the flame go out. I felt unbelievably blessed!

Many of these stories I have not shared too often as I guess I wasn’t sure if anyone would believe me. Now it feels imperative to speak up, and share so you too can open to the infinite possibilities of energy healing, and have hope in a time of much upheaval. And I would like to think that now I don’t care quite so much what everyone may think!!

Having said that, I am committing to continue sharing these kinds of happenings in my life, and I would love to hear your magical mystical miracle stories. So when challenges rise, we can surround ourselves with visions of what is possible.
